Another lovely day

Today was another utterly beautiful day and most of it had to spent in side putting the finishing touches on the BCHI convention in March and then we worked on the centerpieces for the tables. They turned out cute. I would have rather been outside.

When I got home I was going to take a short nap and Katie showed up with her dog and wanted me to go for a walk with her. I told her I needed a nap and she stayed anyway. That is OK, I will sleep better tonight. I am afraid to take Sage on a walk with her and her puppy. If Sage pulled one of her snits when a car went by, she might hurt Callie and they I would be devastated.
She got her kitty. That makes several times, he keeps getting out and coming home, he and the other one. She took 2. That only leaves us 7 in the barn. Whoopie dooooooo.

I did go out and clean stalls and got Sage and we went for a little walk about out in the pasture. She kept wanting to eat and lipping me looking for treats. No more treats for doing good things. I have spoiled her and she won't stay out of my pockets. Not so good. Maybe tomorrow I can do more with her when we get home from church. I was thinking we would come straight home but Bob has 3 or 4 places to go after so I don't really know. She needs to be ready to go to the Bob Marshall on June 24.

So my uneventful Friday is about over. Me and my book will curl up pretty soon and put my warmed rice bag on my toesies and enjoy the evening.

Happy Birthday Steven

Steve's birthday is today. He got the best present in the world with Debbie's news on Wednesday. He sure was a cute little guy wasn't he.

A few months ago. He is our first born. Love you lots Steven.

I spent some time with my spotted girls today. First of all I took Sage next door on the start of our walk about. Other than the ice she got frightened on she did that part wonderful. Then we walked down to Shannon's - about half a mile - along the road. She did not like the cars coming towards her. She reared up and did a little dance but did not try to get out of my control. When we got to Shannon's she got a little excited about all her horses and mules. When they settled down so did she. She just stood there and let us talk and pet on her and let Shannon's dogs run around her. We had a little more excitement coming home. Cars coming up behind her made her nervous. When they slowed down she was OK but when they just went zipping by she didn't like it much. But all in all we had a great time walking on our most beautiful day. Not warm but not ice chilling cold either. Sunday, Shannon is going to pony her off her mule. He is good at that. I will ride along on either Raven or Pepper. Both of them need some exercise.

Went to see Debbie this morning after I went and and got my new glasses. I am not sure I like them at all. It will take some getting used to. Debbie looked good, she had had a shower and washed her hair and was kind of tired but was feeling much better. They removed her IV and she was glad to get rid of that even though they left the thingy in her hand. I believe she will go home tomorrow.

I was going through more old pictures and came upon a picture of my Daddy. I don't know the year but I am sure it was at Longbeach, WA. I love the picture.

This evening I went in to visit Debbie on my way to the monthly Meeting of the North East Zone. She looked good. She was sitting up in a chair. She is uncomfortable but not pushing the pain med button often enough. A stubborn one she is. Her color was good and she was getting ready to have supper but she has already told them she wouldn't eat it. She thought she would go home tomorrow but the doctor said Saturday or Sunday and she was really quite irritated by that. She had a mind set of going home tomorrow.

The meeting was good but they let other people come in there to eat and they were not thoughtful at all and laughed and talked and it was hard to hear the president or anyone speaking. That is irritating to me. We had a really good turnout though. For that I was glad.

Great News

Steve and Debbie last Christmas

The best news we could have had and nothing to do with our horses. Today our Daughter In Law Debbie went in for her surgery for ovarian cancer and possible uterine cancer. They sent her off to surgery and we sat and sat and sat - about 4 hours I believe and the doctor came out and said NO CANCER anywhere. They sent tissue the lab and it was all clear. Thank you so much for all your prayers, thoughts and whatever you believe in because it worked. You could see the load lift off of Steve's shoulders when the doctor told us. I thought he was going to levitate to the moon. What a relief. She now has to recover from the surgery but the relief will help her through that.

Then, what a day, sitting at the hospital is exhausting. When we got home there were flowers waiting for us. A dear friend, Grandma Jean, sent them as a thank you to Bob for all he does for her. We did not expect it but it was wonderful to find on the porch. They look like spring.

More rain today. It was pouring when we left for the hospital but had slowed down by this evening. Our lake - Lake Dru - is full again. We changed the name to Lake Dru because last year Nikki and a friend came to visit and her little guy Dru had been told to stay out of the water, and you know what he did, went out and "fell" in. He expected great sympathy from his mother but didn't get it. Anita reminded me of it and we changed the name to Lake Dru.

Blessings,

PS - Kelly at Rose Hill Farm, why can't I send you a comment?

Lake Bob

I would call it Williams Lake but that is already taken so I settled on Lake Bob. We had nearly 2" of rain last night and with frozen ground, now we have a lake. It is grass to put it mildly. I had to lead Sage out through another part of it to get her from the pasture. She didn't seem to mind. That was good. In fact she came running to me for me to put her halter on. I think she was expecting a treat and of course she got one. Spoiled, wwwwwweeeeeeeeeellllllllllll maybe.
I put the saddle on her today. She just let me pop it up on her back and cinch it up. She had not forgotten a thing. In fact she just stood there looking at me like what am I supposed to do now. Why aren't you getting on. I will one day soon when the round pen dries up enough to get in there. My goal is to ride her in the Bob Marshall on June 24th.

While Sage and Ditto were eating their lunches I started cleaning up the barn some. Its a big mess and Bob left stuff sitting around that I was afraid if Sage did a spooky dance she might hurt herself. My back is saying ouch a little tonight but that's OK. I felt good getting some things accomplished.

This evening I went down to Shannon's and tested 2 of her goats milk. I will need to mail it in tomorrow. I just took the refresher class a week or so ago. Not complicated but would have been better if I had remembered my reading glasses.

So that was the high points of my day.

Rain Rain Go Away

It is raining, and I mean RAINING. Right on top of our snow and ice. Not too fun. I am still trying to rid myself of a sore throat so I did not go out to work with Sage. It is mostly gone and tomorrow we will get back at getting ready to ride the first day it is nice enough too. I have a goal.

Friday Bob went to an all afternoon conference at the Davenport Hotel which was put on by The National Academies, Advisers to the Nation on Science, Engineering and Medicine. It was the Board on Agriculture and Natural Resources. It was "A Review of the Bureau of Land Management - Wild Horse and Burro Management Program". The panel was made up of all kinds of animal health scientists. They were discussing management of the wild horse herds. The talked a lot about PZP and how it works. They talked about habitat and herd counts and how they accomplish it without helicopters. They did not discuss adoption, horse slaughter or horse reserves. They mostly were interested in preserving the herds with the least amount of disruption. Primarily by using birth control. They are very familiar with the Pryor herd and some of the Oregon herds. Bob thought it was worthwhile and was glad he went. It was free.

I have not read through the paperwork that he brought home yet, but I intend to.

Hope you have a good first week in February.

Some things coming up

My two girls resting in the sun. This was my only venture outside today. Still have a sore throat and stayed in trying to get rid of it. It is much better this evening but not gone. It better get out of here. I am tired of it.

Last night our Mustang Club met. We planned a ride and camp out on April 14/15. We talked about planning a trip to the ocean beach somewhere to ride. I think Mary is going to research places to go camp and ride on the beaches. We also talked about instead of having a Mustang Days on our own, having a booth and maybe could have some of our horses there for people to see at Ride the West. We won't make money but might serve the same purposes. It will cost about $150.00 to do that. We have the money to do that. I also mentioned remembering to pay our $10.00 to keep track of hours rode. The more that do it, the better chance we have of winning a really nice gift this weekend. So far, only Bob and I have done it and we have rode 0 miles so........................

We had a fun telephone call this morning inviting us to ride into the Bob Marshall on June 24 for a week. We said a big yes. We will ride to Pretty Prairie. I want Sage to be ready to ride. I am going to push her to do that.

I am still working on old pictures. I got over 100 uploaded today. I better get them onto my external modem though. On the computer is not good enough.

Tomorrow we are celebrating Chrissy's 40th. birthday. I had a turkey in the freezer and that is what we are having. Ought to have something special for turning 40.
