A nasty day

Sunday Stills - Glass
This is one of the candle stick holders from Bob's fathers collection. He has been gone over 20 years. Most of them were sold but the ones that did not sell we got. Love that blue color.
My back is giving me fits. Can't wait to get into the chiropractor on Tuesday. Spent most of the day laying down with a pillow propped against my hip. Hate this. It seems better this evening. I really wanted to ride this weekend but no such thing occurred.
I went over my 1000 things that bless me. I had numbers mixed up a couple of places and found about 3 duplicates. Guess they double bless me so the numbers are different today.

Yesterday was a cow day, today recovering

The day started about 10:00 AM. Part of the cows belong to John, our neighbor. He was there with his trailer, we had our trailer and our good friends Ron and Shannon brought their truck and trailer. We had 27 cow calf pairs to gather up and load.

This is one of Johns cows. I think she is cute. Part Galloway I think.
The big cow is Johns, the little red cow beside her is ours.

Kilo and Josie. They are Shannon and Ron's. I wish Skeeter minded as well as Kilo.

I would love hair like Shannon's. I don't have the patience.
And today I went to a couple of yard sales and found a couple of bargains. Met a lady that wants to ride and her husband made her get rid of her horses. I bought some of her tack. I asked about saddles (not that I need one) but her daughter who lives in southern California and was involved in the bad fires a couple of years ago. Their horse trailer melted and her saddles melted. She had loaned them to her daughter until she decided whether to sell them or not. I feel bad for her because her husband is being so crabby about it. Her horse fell on her. She wasn't hurt badly but it frightened him. She really wants a mustang so I invited her here. She will be able to pet one and maybe even ride one.
At another yard sale I found some books that I have wanted to read. Non fiction books. I will mix them in with my no brainer reading. That is how I read so many. I have to read when I go to bed and it depends on when I can sleep how much. I am starting on the last book of the series about the Indians in the Ochoco Mountains in Oregon. Makes my toenails curl.
I finally have one large tomato turning red. There are (without exaggerating) a thousand green tomatoes. From cherry tomatoes to really big tomatoes. Hope we get to eat some.
Maybe some horse pictures tomorrow. Please pray that my back stops being a hindrance to me.
Blessings

Sorry No Pictures

A very slow day. Bob is part of the Mounted Search and Rescue for Spokane Country and they got called out about 11 last night to find a lady and three children lost in the mountains around Liberty Lake. She was found and all was OK. I don't know what time he got home but the dogs woke him up at their regular going out time of about 4:30. He went back to sleep but not soundly. He had to be in town this morning and when he got home he was exhausted and lay on the sofa and slept like a log for 3 1/2 hrs. I tried to be quiet so he would not get woken up.

I finally went outside and worked with Sage. I picked up her feet and rubbed her all over with the rubber curry and put the surcingle on her. I also got the training halter on her. No bit but made like a headstall with lots of rings on it. She did not fight me putting it over her ears. I was so happy with her. Then I tried to ground drive her. I could not get her to move. Bob came outside rested up from him nap. He put a lead rope on her and got her to lead around and finally I got her moving on our own. She is so funny when she gets startled. She doesn't rear or shy sideways. She levitates all four feet off the ground in place. I hope she does not do that with me on her. I stood on the step stool and lay against her back. She is not as willing for me to do it with the surcingle there too. Just more work.

While I was ground driving her after she got what I wanted, she just lowered her head until she was level, her ears were foreword and she was very relaxed. Makes me want to jump and shout hooray.

I had my horse club meeting this evening, the first of the fall, and just as I was leaving Bob got a call that our cows up at Newport were out. I suppose tomorrow we will take Pepper up and start bringing them home. I love the baby calves when they are tiny but cows are not my favorite animal in the world. We make good on selling beef but I would rather buy them as just weaned and raise them here than have cow calf pairs. Cows are not really brilliant.

More of my list of 1000 blessings:

334 - The lady and her 3 grandchildren were found safely
335 - Bob had finished his S & R training
336 - Sharpie pens
337 - metal pancake turners (hate plastic ones)

A Sunny Day on the Farm

She looked at me like why are you asking me to stand here and do nothing. I will do it but it really is boring.
She and Bob were having a conversation about not pulling the rope thru the Blocker Tie Ring and eating grass. She stood there for better part of half and hour after we had been in the round pen and had lifted both front feet and we had taken a walk around the yard. Bob was working on a tractor up on the trailer and she didn't quite know about that but she went with me. Bob fed her grass hay and I snuck her a flake of alfalfa. I got caught be she really liked it. She doesn't like that grass hay and she had been so good.
The new stairs to the loft in the barn. They are narrow and steep but so very much better than a ladder.
We didn't do a whole lot today. Bob messed with the tractor and I fiddled around in the house. I am crotcheting an afgan and I get going on it and can sit for quite a while.
My thousand blessings list goes on -
319 Pockets in slacks
320 baby goats
321 watching puppies play

A Rainy Day

Pistol and her brother Paco playing. His owners came over for a while and brought him to play. They tore around. Shannan gave Pistol her second shot and then she didn't feel like rough housing any more. They look like twins, except Paco is larger.
It has rained most of the day and we didn't do much at all. Steve is working on the inside of the barn and we spent some time down visiting with him while he worked. A pretty slow moving day. It feels like a weekend with Bob home now.
More of my 1000 list of blessings.
311 Sharp kitchen knives
312 Pinking shears
313 My very own kitchen tools
314 Puppy shots
315 Pull along suitcases

A Lazy Day For Me

When we got home from church I changed clothes and lay down to take a nap. Bob went to get a load of hay. When I woke up and took Pistol out this is what I found in my back yard. Both donkeys and Ditto were dining on the lawn. It always happens when Bob is gone of course.
I put Pistol in the house, went and got a halter and lead rope and put them on Chemmy. He was the closest to me. I led him over and through the open gate and Yuma and Ditto followed behind. Not a big trouble but never happens when Bob is home.

Before I went to sleep I wanted Pistol and Skeeter playing. They are playing tug a war with one of Skeeters toys. They had such a good time. When he got tired, Pistol lay down and zonked for her own nap and Skeeter took his toy up on our bed where no one could get it.

On our way to church we saw this beautiful 4 point buck standing in the field. It is such a good way to start the day.
