A Wonderful Weekend

This is how our weekend started, just as we started up over Lookout Pass. The lug nuts came out and sent the tire sailing over 3 lanes of highway and onto a side road. Later we had another flat tire too. Kind of made us wish we had stayed home.Got everything fixed though and it was OK.

I will probably share a few more tomorrow but I am having trouble staying awake. I got stung putting Raven out when we got home and the Benedryl makes me groggy. We got home very easily with no mishaps.

Not so good ride 7

Katie working with Liberty which she bought for Cameron for a wedding present. I am so glad Liberty belongs to someone again. She is coming along nicely.

I am doing a Photo Challenge for the month of September and the picture for today was supplies. These are our supplies to go horse camping. At least for the horses. We are leaving early in the morning for Clearwater Canyon in Montana. It is about 50 miles this side of Missoula. I love going there and riding out of there. So......another weekend away. We are going with about 4 other couples and their horses.

I did ride today but it was the least successful. I am not sure why. She was spooky and tense. We rode for a while but I did not want her to buck and I was not too sure that is not what she had in mind. I rode about 10 minutes and got off. I took the tack off and petted her and rubbed her down. We went out to the trailer before Bob put the hay in and I expected her to act scared of it. But, she surprised me and hopped right in and stood there. She looked at me like, OK what now. We got out and I put her away. At least something successful for the day. I can not expect her never to have a day not really to good at riding. Well, I can hope but dont think it will happen. She was so tense, I was afraid she was going to make me tense and I didn't want that to happen. So it ended good anyway.

Ride 6

Ride 6 and it was better than the last one. She finally got to moving around the round pen without Bob having to go in front of her.

After we rode for a little while I put her in her pen to rest for about 15 minutes and then we worked on loading in the trailer. She did not want to be sent in but walked right in when I went with her. We put Pepper in first. I was so proud of her. As usual of course.

We had quite a storm this afternoon. The thunder boomed and the lightening wasn't far behind it. Even though I don't like thunder and lightening I love how the air smells. It went on a couple of hours.

Another Weekend Away

This is a group of pictures for sure. We went to Nikki's on Friday and came home today (Monday). We went to attend a picnic lunch for my other uncles 95Th. birthday. He is not quite as frail as my other 95 year old uncle. He lives on his own and drives a little. More pictures on down.

This picture is at Banks Lake. We have had family camp outs there and one of thing that has brought us there is the wonderful beach. For some reason, unknown to us, the have sucked the lake half dry and the swimming beach is dry. I am glad we did not plan one this year.

He and I. He is who walked me down the aisle when Bob and I got married almost 54 years ago. My father died when I was 17. He is my father's youngest brother.

That evening we went to Bob's cousin Tim's for a BBQ. We had a great time. This is Isaac on the tire swing.

And Lane fishing for catfish. He brings them home and puts them into a little plastic pool that he has in the backyard.

This actually pumps their water. When the wind does not blow it has a motor. Loved it.

A big pile of wheat outside the elevator in Creston. That is a small town about 45 minutes from here. They pile the wheat up like that when the elevator gets full.

When we got home we found 4 kittens. Actually Katie had found them. We put them in the tack room. They sure are cute.

My first tomato. I will eat it tomorrow.

That pretty much is our weekend. I am tired. I have to have blood work done in the morning. I am tired of this every 6 weeks, they never find much and I guess that is a good thing.

Unleashed

I had not ridden for almost a week and today I rode unleashed. I had a little trouble getting her to lead without being led but that will come.

She is flexing both ways easily. To the left is best. I am so proud of her. I had to really beg Bob to let us go without the lunge line and we did it. I was so happy. I think we rode alone for about 15 minutes. Not going far nor fast and that is a good thing.

Mt. Rainer from the top of the Vantage grade. It always makes my heart skip when I see it. I grew up looking at it out the kitchen window.

Today I went and had my hair trimmed and a pedicure. I would have one every other week if I could afford it. When I came home I mowed most of the lawn. For some reason I got a blister on my right hand. So Bob took it over and finished. We have a very large yard and it takes a while. Even with the riding mower.

Back

Lest you think I have skipped the country, I haven't. I worked Friday, Saturday and Sunday at a horse show in Yakima. It was very hot, in fact 98 on Sunday and not a drop of shade to be found for the most part. I drove straight home after the show was over and collapsed into a warm bath and went to bed. I had a hard time making it through Monday without sinking into the nearest chair all day.

Yesterday our youngest daughter had surgery and we were at the hospital most of the day. In the evening I had to go to Couer d'Alene to a friends home and put together baskets for a silent auction at the Panhandle Back Country Horsemen clinic we are doing September 10 at Farragut State Park. The clinic is called "From Spooky to Calm". There will be, besides the silent auction, a despooking clinic, a trail obstacle clinic, an inspection of horse trailers, a trail ride, a packing demo, a leave no trace discussion, horse first aid and a mounted shooting demo by Bob Peters. If you choose to just come and watch the fee will be $15.00 If you bring your horse It is $25.00. And if there is more in your family that want to come the fee is $65.00 which covers 3 or more with horses. Children under 18 must be accompanied by a parent and must wear a helmet when mounted on a horse. Lunch will be offered for $5.oo per person. I have only had time to love on Sage a little and groom her today. I did umteen loads of laundry and I am still working on my craft/sewing room. It was so awful but I am getting there slowly.

Maybe tomorrow I will get on her again.

Hallelujah

I really rode her today, not attached to the hit rail. Bob started out leading her around outside the round pen and then he led us into the round pen and let out the lunge line. He could not let me go completely on my own. I rode her around and reversed and figure 8's for better part of an hour. I backed her and bent her head both ways. To the left is not so good but easily to the right. Tomorrow I swear I am going to make him let go of me.
I wanted to shout but know better than that. A slow comfy walk was all we did and she was very relaxed.

Wrangler and Liberty. I sat on the ground to get the picture I wanted and was attacked by ants. I thought I was going to have to strip out there in the pasture. Didn't, but could feel them crawling even after they were gone.

Abby. Her tail is growing back quite nicely. Better than Wranglers but his is growing too. Silly horses to chew each others tails off.

A load of hay. We have about 3/4 of our hay in. Bob is mowing for the guy to pay for most of it. That is a relief.

Bob and I will be heading for town shortly. We have to make a trip to Aslin Finch and then to Couer d'Alene to our Back Country Horsemen meeting this evening. Its been a super day.
