No pictures. Can't take them and do what I need to do. I worked with both ponies today and saddled Sage again. Flapped the stirrups against her. She does not get upset about any of that. Then she spooks at stupid things like a piece of string the wind catches. I know she will get over it though.
We trimmed more on her front feet today. Got them down where they should be. Now to tackle her hind feet. I got one foot picked up today. One of these days I will be one her.
Tomorrow we have to work on Stella's feet. They look good but both front feet at cracked and she has knocked a chunk out of one rear foot. Bob may have to get some of the stuff they use to seal up cracks with until they can grow out.
It was a lovely day here - almost 70 degrees. Loved it. I did go and get my hair trimmed up a little shorter but am not crazy about it. Its the length I wanted but not really the shape. I hate it when there is someone I like and then they leave. Oh well, such is life.

I am back among the living
I just loved this picture.
This old mule had lots of food in his pasture. We think he is just old. He looked old anyway.

Ups and Downs
My precious old Ditto. She is 31 this month. She was bucking around their field the other day and I told her I might want to ride her if she kept that up. Love her so much. Have had her for 29 years.
We got word today that our dear friend Joe Mertens died last Friday. I feel so bad that no one let us know before now. He and his dear wife Elaine have been good friends for the last 35 years. RIP dear friend, we love you.
That is all for today.
Blessings.

We beat the rain
Katie
The Birch trees looked so pretty over against the hill.
A pair of mallards on a pond. The males are such a beautiful color.
I was walking around taking pictures of the ducks and a mama Killdeer came bombing out in front of me and her baby running along. She did her best to get me to leave. When I walked around the rock looking for the baby, it was laying there playing dead but was breathing. Only about the size of my thumb. When we walked away mom came scurrying back, baby jumped up and they ran off into the weeds.
It was very pretty this morning and Katie is off on Monday and she came out. We decided to go for a trail ride and that's what we did. It was so fun. Something set the horses off, not a clue what but Pepper put his head down and was going to do a rodeo buck. I got his head up and around but he was naughty for quite a few minutes before he settled down. Wrangler didn't buck with Bob but he was doing a tippy toe jig and Abby took off fast down the trail away from where we were. Finally got them all settled down and it was a relaxing ride the rest of the time. There was a lot of boggy ground and none of them liked that. I am a little nervous about crossing water on Pepper after last years catastrophe of him laying down. I do ride with spurs since then.
The rest of the week we will be getting ready to go camping this next weekend with our horses. We are going with three or four other couples and their kids. I sure do pray for nice weather.
Blessings.

A Busy Day
I just thought this little one was so cute. I just love baby goats but I don't want another one. Shannon keeps trying to give one to me. I think Shannon's goats have produced about 20 babies.
We worked with the ponies, and both of us worked with Emma. She likes Bob best, took him a couple of minutes to be rubbing her shoulder. We have got to get a halter on her but that just wigs her out. We will be working with her. I just can't send her back to her owner because he will just shoot her. So she is tough but we will keep at her.
We worked on fences around the Arena today so I can turn Sage out. The fence on the border with the neighbor is not as secure for her than I would like. We may put panels down that side. I did put her out there for a while when I was out there. She needs to be able to get more exercise and move around. Her pen is not too small but she needs to be able to run and buck if she doesn't try to get through the fence.
Had a marvelous service this morning at church. Next Thursday - May 5th. - is the National Day of Prayer. Our church is having three services.

Stella and Rocky
Today we decided to go to the horse auction in Davenport. I don't know why, we just go for entertainment and end up feeling bad. Horses were better priced today and some went for well over a thousand dollars but some went for 10 and 25 too. Most of them were on the thin side and obviously needed forming and better food. There was a pen of ponies. I mean Shetland size or a little smaller. There was a very pregnant mare I wanted but I thought 50.00 was my top bid. She went for 200.00. A pair of black and white pinto ponies went for 200.00 a piece. Those were my favorites. Then came Rocky - the little bay and white gelding. Bob told me to go to 75.00 and I got him for 60.00. Then came the black filly. She is out of a full size mare and a Shetland stud so she should be about Rosie size - 13 hands. I thought Rocky was the mare and Stella was the gelding but its the other way around. She is only about 15 months old. They have been running in a big pasture so they are not too friendly yet but we will work on that. I paid 10.00 for her. Did I need another project - of course not but I have always made money on ponies and donkeys. No donkeys there so I will try to get these ready to do as soon as I can. I want to work on Stella first, get her fattened up some and get her coat shiny and then I will advertise her. Every month when we go we look for ponies and this is the first time in a long time that there have been any. Rocky is as cute as a bug and is halter trained. Am not sure how to break him to ride but first, make him friendly.
They sold three mini horses that were about 8 months old and were the scroungiest looking things, wormy, scrawney and they sold for 200.00 a piece. I thought they would go for 10 bucks but whew was I wrong. I did not want the stud nor one of the fillys, her feet and legs were awful but the other would have been nice. Someone saw something I certainly didn't.
So, that was my day. I am watching Dr. Zhivago on PBS. I loved that movie. Don't know if I will be able to stay awake until the end but I want to see Lara and Zhivago in the sleigh.
Blessings
