I Am Home

This was one of the better adoptions that we have been too. There were 17 out of 33 adopted. I loved this big black mare. Don't remember where she was from. She could very well be pregnant. She was adopted. I loved her look.
There were a group of youth that got yearlings for a 90 day competition. It is called YaY (youth and yearling). Most of them were not quite a year old I don't think. The kids were glad to see their babies. I judged their event last year and the kids did awesome with them.

This was a three year old mare. She was so quiet. She would come up to the fence and smell your hand. She was adopted by a girl for a 4H project. If I had been going to adopt a horse, she would have been my first choice. When they loaded her, she was very quiet in the chute and just let them put the halter on her.
This is Greg. He drives the big BLM truck a lot of the time. He is a character. He loves what he does. We had dinner with him and a group the other BLM guys and he cracks me up.

My friend Tracey who does so much for the mustangs. She may not be my good friend if she sees this. She didn't know I took it.

Jaime Thomas did the gentling demo with a 2 year old filly. She did a good job. There were about a hundred people there watching.

There were several young pinto horses, both filly's and geldings from Paisley. I wonder if they are related to Sage. This little girl didn't get too excited in the chute but she did not want the halter on her.

Katie, one of the YaY yearlings pretty excited about her filly. She named her Beamer's Blue Moon. She will do a great job. She was touching her face while the filly was still in the chute.

This was Morgan getting her YaY yearling. I think she got a filly too. I believe hers had a blaze on her face. She is excited too.

When we left Longview Sunday morning we went up to Marysville to our Grandson Dustins birthday dinner. He is the oldest of Nikki's 6 boys. He is a handsome guy and girls he is single.

Isn't that ugly. Nikki went to the Gorge (if you aren't from WA, it is a large amphitheater overlooking the Columbia River and it has all sorts of concerts and events there) to a Joe Crocker and Tom Petty concert on Friday night. They rarely get to do things like that and she fell on her way to the restroom and ended up in the ER in Quincy with is the closest little town. She was stone cold sober too. They came in the her ER space to see the sober person that got hurt. Apparently it had been a busy night for the non sober. It hurt her so bad. Her birthday is in 10 days so we took her her birthday gift to her too.
Today I worked twice with Sage and I finally got to scratch her neck. She let me after rubbing her with the stick for a while. She did swing her butt at me a couple of time and I swatted her with the stick and told her no. She got the message. You have 3 seconds to make them think you are going to kill them and then just go back to being nice and pretend it did not happen. I should be able to use the round pen by Wednesday. I am anticipating making good progress then.
The girls got our bedroom painted over the weekend. Now to get the floor layed so we can get back in there. Now to get the kitchen ready to paint. Oh girls...............I will need your help.
Its been a good day. I took a little nap and have been working on house stuff. I would have rather been outside all day but my maid didn't show up. LOL
Blessings

Now the eye is black

Katie came out today and gave all the kittens baths. They looked kind of like drowned rats but they were all happy when it was over and they were clean and sweet smelling again. Hope we can find homes for them - they are all up for give away. They are litter box trained and eat good.
I just got out of the shower and washed my hair to get the last of the blood out. I looked in the mirror at my forehead and eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeek. My right eye is black. Isn't that going to be a sight at the mustang adoption this weekend.
Andrea, if you think her hind feet are awful, I should have gotten her front ones in the picture. They are gross and if we can't get her to the point of picking up her feet soon, we will drug her. They are beyond gross actually. I sure wish you could come this weekend too but family is most important. Be thankful you have living grandparents.

Just a day

My tomato and pepper plants. So much rain has fallen that they are just kind of sitting there. I am so hungry for a fresh ripe tomato.
This is the mare we have in for training. She is 5 or 6 years old - a Kiger mare that has never been handled. Just been a brood mare for mule babies. Her feet are horrid and we need to get her gentled so that can be done before we worry about anything else. She is very aggressive and does not want to be gentled any more than she has been. She will take grass out of my hand but touching her is another story.

This is what Sage does when I try to get close to her. The pen is just too small to work that big horse in.
Fatty Amelia. She is on a dry lot diet. She was so thin when she came but now, no way. She does not like being in there but for her welfare, that is where she is.

Out bottle baby calf Jack. He thinks I am his mother. He has graduated from a bottle to a nipple bucket because I was not taking 3 bottles to the barn. Or running back and forth mixing more.s He is a cute guy - reminds me of George that we had 2 or 3 years ago.
My head is healing fine. It just is a big red blob now. We went to Walmart this morning and people looked at me strange. I did a bad thing and did not call Nikki or Christy last night. I have apologized. I really was just disgusted with myself.
So, that's life on Calico Acres Farm. Have a gazillion things to do tomorrow before leaving for Longview and the mustang adoption this weekend. I am excited to get to go up and see Nikki on Sunday on our way home and celebrate her and Dustins birthdays.
Blessings.

COWS!

This is what happens to ones forehead when you are one side of a pipe panel trying to make the cow move and she hits the panel when ones forehead is close. Nothing to stitch but I do have a concussion and my head is sore. I will survive. But it hurt like bloody thunder and lots of blood. I did have a CT scan and the doctor said it was a sure thing - I had a brain. LOL

Bob was driving his route yesterday and this house is where he picks up one of the packets and he saw these Grossbeaks at the feeder. Aren't they pretty.

My horse activities got curtailed today when I was helping with getting the cows into the chute to be branded, shots, and wormed. One got done, that was the end for today. He told me I was fired. LOL.

Most of the rest of the day was spent in the ER. It scared Bob worse than me. I did not like all the blood and the pain but I knew I was OK. So that is my exciting day. Whoopie.

Sunny Day

I will try this again. I have tried to get these up loaded and published three times now. I don't know why the computer has such a problem with me at the helm. Our grandson Robby and his daughter - our great granddaughter Kiyanna May Williams. She is sixteen months old. They live out of town so we have only seen her once before.

Kiyanna. She is going to have a baby sister in October. Tabby and Robby are going to have their hands full. Tabby and Robby are young but they are doing well.

Our grand daughter Coreen Louise Williams graduated from high school on Saturday morning. We are all so proud of her. She is our late son's daughter and Scott would be so proud of her. Robby is Scott's son and Kiyanna is his first grandchild. I know he is looking down from heaven just bursting his buttons. Coreen had a terrible time getting thru high school and we are so proud of her for sticking with it and graduating. She left yesterday to move to Auburn with her half sister Emily. Emily seems to be pretty stable so I hope it will be a good move for Coreen.

Grandpa and Coreen. I don't know why neither of them was smiling. We are really proud of you Reenie.
I did not get to go and it was a difficult decision but everyone understood. A good friend of mine that is also a Horse Show Steward had a family emergency and she called me Thursday AM and needed me to work for her. Her husband had to have emergency bladder surgery for a blockage and it sounded pretty serious. I just could not tell her no. I had a good weekend and made some money to compensate.
Maybe tomorrow I will get back to the Mustang portion of my blog. Until then..........
Blessings

A Day Without Rain

I hope no one is offended by these two pictures. They are for my family to see in particular.. We took flowers to both our son and daughters graves. Our family that lives away does not get to take flowers very often.
It does not seem like seven years but it has been. His daughter graduates from high school on Saturday. He would have been so happy.

We gathered up the kittens and brought them to the house so we could tame them and get them ready to go to new homes. They are so cute. This little guy climbed up the door of the crate and then did not know how to get down.
The sun was out today and I tried to work outside. Shannon helped me make a chicken waterer that holds quite a bit of water. Bob will be surprised. I fed Jack three times. He is the bucket calf baby. He thinks I am his mother. This evening I put the cow in with Snickers and Joe and they drank her dry. Got all my tomatoes planted. The pepper plants in the ground and some other things I had to plant. I have one whole bed of just different kinds of tomatoes. I can't wait. I love fresh tomatoes. In the space at the end I am going to try lavender one more time. I can kill it better than most.
Sage was a little more receptive today. Little is the key word. At least she didn't try to bite me. Bob got about a third of the round pen done so it won't be long until I can put her in there and work her hiney off. We have the other mare to work too. She is vital to get a handle on. I don't know when I have seen a horse with worse feet. Made me sick.
Bob is late tonight, I am stuffed with cherries, the Mariners are winning and I am really tired. Almost have the bedroom clear. I can't move the rest of it on my own. Only have a month to get it all done.
Blessings

Rain

This is my last series of pictures of my trip. I had a glorious time with family. I had not seen Suzy, Lindsey and Caroline in a long time. My time in Mississippi was so much fun. I had never been there before. It is beautiful and so green. The Delta country is a state all its own. So many people living in so much poverty.
Then to Tennessee and my sister and the rest of her family. I miss them all. I am so thankful that Sharon and Brownie will be coming this way. My sister looked so much better than a year ago. That was a relief.
Now to these pictures. Liam arranging Whammommys flower bed. I took her the welcome sign and he had to decide if that was the best place for it.
We took a walk and it was so nice other than Liam got terrified by a big bee and hid behind me screaming until I thought my ear drums would explode. And everyone but me got ticks on them. UUUUUUUUUUUUUuuu. I could feel them crawling though.

Ms Penny going for a dip in the pond. It was so warm that day I didn't blame her.

Sharon and I in Bell Buckle. It is a cute little town. Sharon and I, Tina and Jimmy spent the better part of a day there shopping. So many fun stores and a diner that has scrumptious food.

An old barn we found when we went down the wrong road.

Too Sweet's favorite place to hang out.

On Sunday we went for a drive up to Monteagle, TN. Liam in front the the huge cross on the grounds of the University of the South at Sewanee. The rocks were hot and he did not sit there long.

The cross with the sun behind it.

Papa and Liam having a discussion.

The cross from the other side. It is a beautiful place.

Down a ways from Sewanee is a place called The Assembly. Lots of old mostly summer homes. It is a gated community although the gates were open. Its like a condo. They pay a fee to live there although they own the houses. This bridge is across a couple of little low spots.

Too Sweet loves the water and wears her life jacket faithfully. She has a float that she jumps on and rides around too.

The old post office in Normandy. It is hardly used any more but that is the town my sister is listed as living although they are quite close to Tullahoma.

Sharon and Brownie at Cracker Barrell. I love eating there. Its a great place. Wish we had them here.

My mothers grave. I took flowers. Love all the angels they have placed around it. Wish we could do things like that where our children are buried. I glued a little sheep to Coreen's headstone but its gone.

The End.
Just before we started our descent into Spokane.
Lots of pictures, lots of fun and lots of glad to be home.
Blessings
