This and That

Skeeter (the dirty poodle) and Pistol the evening we got home from our camping trip. They were so glad to see us.
Our son Steve's hunting cabin. He had been home a couple of days and we took him back up this afternoon.

This morning when we got up where the sprinkler had been on last night there was ice.

The little stream near their camping place.

We had a good time driving up into the Colville National Forest today. It was a very chilly morning but this afternoon was lovely. We only saw one deer. That was OK. It was all beautiful.

Lorie, I got your note today. The package will be in the mail tomorrow. Thank you for the invitation. I don't know yet. Will have to wait and see what October brings. It is hunting season and that may take precedent.

My baby kitties are doing well. I will try to get pictures tomorrow.

Ramblings

No pictures today. I am lucky I can see to type this. There are terrible fires over near Coulee Dam and Wenatchee and we have a very strong wind blowing the smoke this way. I am having trouble with my eyes and my throat. Its miserable. Tried to work out in the yard and could not do it. I hope we don't have any, any closer. We have water running to keep things around the house and barn damp.

We went down to Davenport to the cattle auction but the smoke was so bad we didn't stay too long. Then on the way home we stopped at a grand yard sale. Everything was half off because it ran all weekend. I didn't know it. Got a couple of very nice things.

Tomorrow I am going to go visit Vicki and get going with my quilt. I need her to look at the blocks I have done. I am so excited about doing it. My blogger friend Marlene is a quilter. I think she does her by machine and all of mine will be by hand.

Sage is a different horse since we took her into the wilds of Montana. She loves on us and comes when we go out and is just a loving horse. She doesn't seem to spook at things. I may be slightly , just slightly prejudicial.

I think I will get into the shower and see if I can get some relief for my eyes.

Odds and Ends

Chrissy and Wendy were baby sitting this little guy. He was excited to go to ride a horse that he stood there and trembled with excitement. He fed the chickens, pet the goat climbed in the hay and asked us if he could come back and do it again. Of course we said yes.

We left for a couple of hours and this is what we came home to. I think, the dogs thought we had left them again. Not funny.

My bundle of kittens.

Katie at her shower.

The rocking horse that I got her. She seemed to like it.

A long day. Grandson and friend came and worked for Shannon and when they were done there they went over to Couer d'Alene and worked again. They were too tuckered 15 year olds when we took them home earlier this evening. I made chicken enchiladas for dinner so they got a good meal when they were finished.

Last of Camping Trip Pictures

This was before we mounted up to go out the first time. Bob said something to me and I did not understand what he said, thus the weird face. I took her over to smell and look at the motorcycle. She did. I did not like the asphalt to work her on.

Angie and Bob with the last load of their big 2nd. wreck with pack animals. Rosie is an angel pack horse. She made 3 trips in that time.

When we camped at the road in to Coolidge. This little cabin was just sitting there in the woods.
I would not go in the door. It looked creepy.

I think I said I didn't take any pictures of the time at the hot springs.

Soooooooooooo, that was our trip.

Blessings,

More Camping Trip

Red sunset over Montana.
Sage out the window of the tent.

Raindrops keep falling on my head - actually 2 storms all week. They both were thunder and lightening. I was concerned because we were camped at the edge of a big meadow. We went and got the horses in. Did not want them to be a target for a lightening bolt.

Bob ponying me along after she did her airs above the ground with me. She really goes well being ponied.

Sitting around on a different trail ride. We had been having lunch. It was the time she (Sage) tromped on my helmet. I didn't think I left it that close but she got stung or something because she went from standing there asleep by a tree to throwing herself backwards and rearing all over the place.

Another walking along on a nasty trail.

Part of the nasty trail before I got off. She picked her way around the rocks but I did better not on her back. I was so afraid she would hurt herself if she got to acting funny. That is how wide the trail was and not near as rocky as it got. It was awful.

Crossing the bridge. She did that wonderful. Even when I was riding her unattended. She would rather walk a bridge and step down into the water. If she could just walk in she didn't mind but most had a big step down and she did not like that.

My feet and muddy pant legs when we got back from the nasty trail. I had waded mud, water and bog.

Bob telling one of his whoppers.

Quite a day. Our mama cat got killed by a car over night and left us with 5 three week old kittens to take care of. Heather, Katie's friend is going to take 2 of the 3 black ones. That leaves me 3 to feed every 2 or 3 hrs. I went to the vet this morning when we found out and got a little bottle and some cat milk formula. When it is gone, she said to give them goat milk. We have access to that from Shannon. Poor babies were so hungry. They are eating better this evening. Their little tummies get full fast.

Other than that, just a day. I need to go see Vicki to go on with my quilt. She is gone this weekend camping with her mules and I don't have time anyway. Have other projects I can work on. I have a rug ready to mail as soon as I get Lori's address.

I should have ridden today but had other things to do instead. Tomorrow is Katie's baby shower. That will take up the afternoon. It is supposed to be hot too. I am ready for some 70's weather. I am not complaining though.

Views on our way to Gold Creek

The Aspen are turning already at 8,000'. So pretty.

A rock formation we kind of drove around. (On the highway of course.)

The smoke was so thick the sun was RED.

Sage learned to stand at the trailer or to a tree or the high line like a lady.

Gold Creek camping area.

The marking on Sage's shoulder. I might have named her different if I had looked at her closely before I gave her that name.

A little country school house. Home of the Mustangs.

Loved the old barn. I think it still is being used.

Hope you are enjoying the pictures. I am loving sharing them with you.

We had our first meeting of the Northeast Zone this evening. Not many there but It was good to see those who were there.

Coolidge, Ghost Town but no ghosts

On the road to where we camped the day we left Harrison Park which was the trail head. this is also the road to Coolidge. There are places to dry camp all the way beyond where they were logging.
Isn't that an interesting rock? It was about 5' tall. The parking area for the ghost town is about half a mile from the actual town. It is a half mile walk unless you have a 4 wheeler. We could have unloaded the horses and rode but we all agreed that would take longer than the walk.

The guys walking ahead of me.

I wish someone had maintained the buildings.

A fence - duh. I am sure you could see that.

A pretty stream.

An open mine shaft. I didn't even like walking around it.

The Back Country Horsemen of that area refurbished that cabin.

It was an interesting place to walk around. I wish the places could talk so we could know what went on in it. It was a mining town.

The next morning Bob took Joyce and I to the Elkhorn Hot Springs. That was fun too. A good hot shower and hair washing and then soaking in a 95 degree pool. I could have stayed all day I think. It was awesome. Angelo had some maintenance to do on the truck so he stayed with the horses. Lots of cows around there. A BIG range bull ambled through our camp that morning. When we got back to the camp site we loaded up and started out. Our second day toward home.
