I could not get the other picture to load.   This is Ft. Spokane, established in 1840.  It is maintained beautifully.  We didn't stop to walk around, just to take this picture.  It sits on the east side of the Spokane River overlooking the river.

I worked with Sage today and too bad no one was here.  She was so laid back I think I could have ridden her anywhere.  Keep doing things to take the spooks out of her and so far that is working.  I sat the bucket of nails on her back and rattled it.  Did that from both sides.  I put a couple of poles on the ground and put the end of one on the bottom rail of the panel.  She just hopped over it fine.  She never stumbled over the other one either.  I get so proud of her every time she does something different happily.

Blessings,

Lea

  1. Sounds like a great day! I know what you mean about wishing someone was around so you could ride. I've been ready to hop on Joseph a couple times now but there was nobody here to scrape me off the ground if things went south.

I didn't know there was a Fort Spokane. I used to live right next to Fort Vancouver. Cool place. I'll have to check out Fort Spokane one of these days.

  2. Sage is sure coming around isn't she? I've had that feeling of wishing someone were around when the timing felt so right too. I did take Eagle to the clinic last weekend. He was nervous hauling, dripping with sweat, but as always, he internalizes his worries and is very quiet while in the trailer. Breaks my heart. But...after some initial nervousness, he settled right down with some work. Handled almost all of the obstacles with beautiful finesse and grace. He makes me so very proud I can hardly contain my joy!!! I love him so!!! A young gal saddled and rode him for about 20 minutes or so, and he did so very well. Just walk and trot work, some flexing and moving hindquarters around. He about jumped out of his skin once when she reached down to pet his neck. Seems like he's always waiting to be hit or something. He's so kind-hearted and gentle, I'll never understand why anyone would ever want to beat on him. The only thing I can come up with is, he's very laid back and would always prefer to mosey rather than step up the pace. I'll never know, but I know with all certainty that he deserved better. He will never be abused again. Ever! We might even take him on a campout weather permitting on Memorial Day W/E. Our riding club is going to Mt. Adams/Buck Meadows and the trails there are fairly easy. Maybe I'll have my first trail ride on Mr. Eags. Hope so! Thanks for your nice comment on my blog. I was feeling a bit overwhelmed and out of sorts yesterday. Helps me to just write and get it all out sometimes. I hope I didn't sound too whiney. :)

  4. I used to live down near Ft Spokane. Sometime you should stop and check out the inside of that stable. It's been many years since I have but I recall it was very cool inside too. Sometimes they still keep a couple Mules out there, not sure if they still do.
