Hot and Tired

It was still 94 at 6:30 and that is the last time I checked. I am not complaining, it is just plain old hot.

This morning Lane and I started unloading 2 tons of hay but Bob and our oldest son Steve soon showed up. Lane was in the way a lot but he was trying to help. Steve put them on the elevator off the trailer, I drug them off and to Bob and he stacked. Our loft is almost full. We have several more tons coming though.

The, we gathered up the cow calf pairs and loaded them in the big trailer and took them up to Newport where they will spend the rest of the summer and fall as long as the grass holds. Not a hard job but its a drive up there with no AC. My face looks like a lobster. My nose will peel but the rest will turn brown.

I worked with Sage first thing this AM = probably about 7:30. She did fine. I did get one foot picked up. Nothing too new. It was too early for both of us. She was in a good frame of mind though. I could have led her about anywhere I think.

Bed is calling loudly and my knees are telling me its time = Blessings

A Great Day

Sage playing peek a boo with me on the outside of the round pen. Loved that look. I was putting some of the horses in for the night.
Her color and the sun did not show exactly what I wanted. She had an expression on her face that was priceless. I was waving the lash of the carrot stick all over. She just stood there and did not freak out like yesterday. I was able to wave it beside her and over her and lay the stick on her with the lash flopping. Much progress.

I used a brush on her the first time today. Had used a rubber curry but not a brush. She did not mind at all. I was so proud of her. I even brushed her face with it.

Our grandson Lane that is visiting for a couple of weeks. He is almost 12. He loves our little pool. Actually it is a large stock tank that we got for the purpose of a pool for our grandkids. I got tired of replacing plastic ones a couple of times every summer. I believe this is season five with it. Bob put a pump on it and they kids love it.

I don't know what he thinks he is going to see at the bottom but he snorkeled all afternoon. In the winter we stash the pump in the garage and and just turn the tank upside down.

Bob and our oldest son Steve pouring cement for a footing for the new garage door. Steve just finished siding it. He did it mostly with leftover from the house. Bob traded some meat to a guy to install the new door. We just had to buy the door. Its waiting. It will be so nice. Then to get the inside cleaned out so we can use it for the reason it was intended for.
A good day. Bob worked, Lane played in the pool and got the eggs for me, went into Airway Heights and got my prescriptions filled and took Lane to Micky Dee's for supper. Bob is at a Back Country Horse board meeting. Our day is winding down restfully.

Sorry no pictures

When I had some awesome picture possibilities, I did not have my camera. The first photo opportunity was Lane feeding Sage hay and her letting him pet her forehead. He has been so timid about the horses that I was surprised. She was so gentle with him. I just grown to love her more every day.

The second was - Bob was unloading 100 100@ bales of hay and 11 year old Lane was going to help. No one asked him to, he wanted to. But he could not budge them even with a hay hook. So he went to the end of the elevator and could push them aside until there were too many and then Grandpa would come and stack them. I sure wish there was someone to help Bob. This is the hardest thing on the farm for him to do.

Sage was good in the round pen today for the most part. She had a little conniption when I started waving the lash of the carrot stick around. She jumped and tried to run but did stop when I got a handle on her head. I am glad I had the 20' rope on her. I finally got her to stand and just look at it. That was progress. AND I did rub her front legs clear to her feet. I did not try to lift it but rubbed it and rubbed it. Every day there is some progress. I can not ask for any more than that.

It was 81 today, 58 yesterday. Does that make sense. Of course not. It is supposed to be almost 100 by the weekend. I am not complaining - I am not. We have a cool house and I can go out and work in the yard, come in and cool down and go back out. Lane is living in the pool.

Wenatchee Again

Three of our six great grandchildren.
Lilianna, Nathaniel and Arawyn.
These are Nikki's grandchildren. They were all three there at the same time for the first time. She took the picture. She bought the little girls tutu's and Nathaniel is wearing the outfit that his daddy wore when he was dedicated. Nathaniel and Lilianna are brother and sister. I love this picture.
I had a successful workout with Sage this morning. She had a minor snit a couple of times but ultimately she did what I asked. I was working with my carrot stick and flipping the lash around. She tolerated it on one side but the other, well not so much but she got over it. That is what we will work on tomorrow. I am trying also to teach her to stand in one place when I tell her to stand. I want her to do that. She got a little irritated with me putting her back and putting her back so we moved on to other things. For the first time when we were done and I took the rope off her and then I held out my hand and she took a step toward me and when I walked away she turned as if to follow but then she thought better of it and she walked away. Progress though.
I drove to Wenatchee and back to go get Arawyn and deliver her to her mother. That is about 350 miles. I am weary. I brought our grandson Lane home with me for a couple of weeks. He entertains himself quite well. He is almost 12.
Blessings.

Happy Birthday America

My sweet friend Kim surprised me today right after we got home from church. She had her grand kids with her. She was taking them home to Everett. They are sweet, beautiful children and I was thrilled to see them again. They had a good time with Skeeter and he with them. Please pray for that family. Her mother is ill with a recurrence of cancer. s
I hope you have all thought about why we celebrate today. What we really celebrate. Our freedoms. Stop to think about how many we have. If you think about another country - Sudan, China, Iraq and think of what we have. Freedom to move about, freedom to worship how we choose, freedom to wear what we want, freedom to say what we want even if it does not sound nice. That is just a drop of the bucket. All because we live in this country. Happy Birthday America. Fireworks are illegal here but if you live where they are, be safe.
Blessings.

A good day

I did work with Sage today and we did great. I consistently can run my hand down her leg and I rubbed down her back to her tail and she just stood there. I only worked once, it was a busy day and kind of gave her a break. I tried to get her to eat some grain but so far its still in its dish in her feeder. I put her hay in over it and she tossed the hay out onto the ground. Oh well. She will get it one of these days.
Ditto got her feet trimmed today. She just stood there like always. She is my first horse love. I have had her since she was 2 and she is now 28.
Our 18 year old granddaughter Coreen. I am so worried about her weight. She is the daughter of our son Scott that died 6 years ago.

This and the next picture are of what broke off of the dun mares hind foot when Bob was working with her. He has not got his hands on her yet but she is giving to the rope OK. Time I guess. I was horrified how the foot had turned so far under. Look at that fold. I am horrified.

I If we could get close enough we would sedate her and trim them but that is not practical at this point. I don't want to rope her and choke her down. Just keep working I guess. A friends niece named her Emma. So that is what I am calling her.
We put Jack the calf out in a small pasture by himself. I hope he does ok over night out there. He comes when you rattle his bucket.
Coreen came for the day. It was so good to see her. Her move to Auburn did not last long. I have several reasons to be very worried about her.
Have a happy Fourth of July
Blessings

Good Progress

I had a great day with Sage today. I put my brush in my pocket before I went out into the round pen. I caught Sage in her little pen. She just lets me walk up to her without a flinch. I led her out to the round pen and did a couple of things with her. Like leading her. Then I rubbed her neck and took out the brush. Isn't her mane beautiful. I was so proud of her to just stand there and let me without jumping or moving off.
Notice anything different? Her halter? I changed halters on her today without so much as a twitch. I was so proud of her. She just stood there and let me like we had done it every day. I took the drag rope off. I could have several days ago but did it today. I was so proud of her.

She has such a pretty face. I also rubbed down her front legs clear to her hoof on this side and to her knee on the other side. I could do it on all four feet with the stick. I was jumping up and down and shouting hurrah inside. This was the best day ever. She acts like she really likes me. I love her.
Today was the Census Bureau picnic. I don't know if it was the Fourth of July picnic or just about over picnic. I know I ate a lot. It was fun. By the end of July it will be all done with I believe.
Blessings
