Looking Back

Mustangs at the Wild Horse Corrals in Burns Oregon Probably close to 15 years ago. Lloyd was a youngish man and has now retired.
Bob at Mt. Rainer, Longmire area when he was young. I think the date on the picture is l943 but its in his brothers hand writing and it was later than that. We were born in l938 and I know he is older than 5 in that picture. Maybe l0 or 11.

Me and the Horse at the Fredrick Meyer Gardens in Grand Rapids, Michigan a few years ago. My friend Sue lives in Hastings. We had such fun.

Sage is doing well. She does not like the spray bottle but she IS going to get used to it.

Blessings.

Update and Raspberry

This is how her cut looks this evening. Its getting much better. I will be glad when its covered over though.
My new little love bug - Raspberry. She is lonely because she has been with a large group but she will get used to being here. She is very sweet.

We are waiting for Nikki and her youngest two boys to arrive. It won't be for a while. She didn't leave until she got off work. I am so excited about her coming. It has been a long time it seems since she came over here. Last July I think.

An ugly grey day but no snow so I will not complain.

Blessings.

Winter Returns

Yesterday around the farm. Rowdy and his hens sitting in the sun. Its a good thing they enjoyed it yesterday because it snowed today. Nothing on the ground but it was nasty and grey. I wanted to ride again today but no such luck.
Raven looking for a treat.

Wrangler wondering if I was going to be waving that darn tarp around again. He has never gotten so he can tolerate that.

Domino. He is so pretty.

This afternoon we went to watch out grandson play basketball at his middle school His number is 24. He did great and they won by lots. I was proud of him. He used to be quite blond but now he is turning into a real redhead. His hair is very curly and he hates it. Grandma loves it.

Tomorrow evening Nikki will be here and I am so excited. Miss her so much. I have some real cleaning to do tomorrow like the guest room and the mess room to get it all ready for Nikki, Lane and Isaac. It isn't really dirty just messy and it makes me worry because she cleans houses for a living and is a perfectionist. She does not get that from her mother. Nor her father for that matter.

Sage is coming a long. I don't like how it looks but Bob says it is improving. I hope he and Shannon are right. I want it well yesterday. Ya know how that is.

Happy Birthday Scotty

The last time our kids were together. Scott is on the left. He usually looked like he just got up but he was sweet.
Scott and his two kids. Robby and Coreen. Love that picture. Robby now has 2 little girls and Coreen is 20.

At the cemetery the next day.

She is looking better. You can see where it is beginning to try to build a scab. I did bridle her. It was not close to the cut. I have been putting the saddle on every day and today I got on her and rode her for about an hour in the round pen. I want to take her out of there. She was marvelous, kept her head down and responded to my legs just fine.

I am tired of begging for help. Bob doesn't want me to ride her out of the round pen but every one that tells me they will help have other things come up. Not their fault at all and I am not frustrated with them, just that I want help and can not afford a trainer. She is kind of spooky but really really seems better. She did not spook on Bob at all. She just walked along with him like a dolly. I am just whining I guess. I hear Bob and others saying you don't want to get hurt, over and over and of course I don't but I trust her. I really do. Oh well. Such is life.

Blessings.

Not such a good ending

Pepper got ridden today and was so happy to have his person riding him. He lets anyone ride him but when Bob gets on, he is a different horse. He has his head up and he was rearing to go.
Our little place from across the road.

Bob and Pepper ponying Sage. He lead her around for the better part of an hour. She did just awesome. Maybe tomorrow we will try down the road.

What are you doing out here?

Bob giving her head a rub when they got back to the barn.

And later in the day when I went to put her in for the night this is what I found. She somehow had gotten her head in between the gate and a fence post that the gate holds it closed. I about had a wigged out moment when I saw it. I called Bob and he and Katie came right over and he called Shannon. Shannon is our neighborhood vet tech and has a vet for a sister that she confers with. There is nothing to sew to so we will just treat it. I will go get some Shreiners tomorrow to spray on it. It is the best stuff that I know of to heal and usually no or very little scarring. When Ditto got into barbed wire one time I used that and there was nor is any scarring at all and her leg looked bad. At least to me.

Sage is very stoic or it doesn't hurt. She let Shannon treat it as long as I was feeding her treats. And of course I had sworn off treats for her. Well I guess this is a good excuse to give them to her.

So a really good day ended not so good but its just the top layer of hide, it could have been so very much worse.

Blessings

Is this really February

Today we worked on some more spooky things. She has not got used to a tarp yet but just maybe we have crossed a line. I had been dragging it around in front of her and then just looped it over the hitch rail. The look on her face tells it all.

Just a minute now. It smells like hay (the tarp had been in the hay shed). She smelled it and smelled it, took a hold of it but didn't like the taste. It didn't taste like hay.

Well, now maybe this isn't too bad. Tomorrow we will work on it some more. I am hoping to ride and pony her. It just did not work for this weekend. I am proud of her.

Church was nice this morning. Enjoyed it. The music was very special - we sang my favorites. After church we went over to see Tom and Chrissy for a few. Then to Harbor Freight to get some things, then we went to brunch. It was fun to just sit, eat and relax. Then to get gas and to Home Depot and then home. We try to run errands when we are in town. There is a new gas station on the north side of town trying to put others out of business. We got gas for 2.83. That is cheaper than in Idaho.

I wasn't such a Super Bowl fan today. Neither of my favorite teams were there but I watched the last quarter. Also watched the half time. One of the better I think. Not being a Madonna fan, I was kind of impressed. Then went back out and took Sage across the road in the weeds and we just walked around. She did good.

So went my day.

Blessings

Another lovely day

Today was another utterly beautiful day and most of it had to spent in side putting the finishing touches on the BCHI convention in March and then we worked on the centerpieces for the tables. They turned out cute. I would have rather been outside.

When I got home I was going to take a short nap and Katie showed up with her dog and wanted me to go for a walk with her. I told her I needed a nap and she stayed anyway. That is OK, I will sleep better tonight. I am afraid to take Sage on a walk with her and her puppy. If Sage pulled one of her snits when a car went by, she might hurt Callie and they I would be devastated.
She got her kitty. That makes several times, he keeps getting out and coming home, he and the other one. She took 2. That only leaves us 7 in the barn. Whoopie dooooooo.

I did go out and clean stalls and got Sage and we went for a little walk about out in the pasture. She kept wanting to eat and lipping me looking for treats. No more treats for doing good things. I have spoiled her and she won't stay out of my pockets. Not so good. Maybe tomorrow I can do more with her when we get home from church. I was thinking we would come straight home but Bob has 3 or 4 places to go after so I don't really know. She needs to be ready to go to the Bob Marshall on June 24.

So my uneventful Friday is about over. Me and my book will curl up pretty soon and put my warmed rice bag on my toesies and enjoy the evening.

Blessings
