Cooler Day

She was saying to me, I don't want to work today. I said too bad Sage. We did and she did OK but had moments when I told her she knew better. She forgot how to lead at first but we continued to work on it. I did eventually pick up both front feet for a few seconds. I was very proud of that.
The wind was still blowing some today but nothing like yesterday. We did work on lunging some. I don't do mindless going round and round until I can work on something in particular. She needed to learn to do what I asked whether she wants to or not. She is giving her rear end and stepping over both directions. She moves her front shoulders to the left stepping over pretty good but the other way, not so much. Patience Lea.

Shannon came down and helped Bob unload these 100# bales. My back just was not up to it today. She did it so Bob would go riding with her down at Riverside. She is putting her fourth ride on her young mule Davon. No going alone at this stage. I would have gone if Lane had not been here but that was more important. He and I had fun.
I worked with Emma today and then Bob worked with her. A mustang that is her age and has been coddled but never tamed is a different ball of wax. You can't treat her like a new mustang but she is wild as one when you try to touch her. Bob accomplished some things but no touch. We are aiming for her shoulder, not her head. She bolts when you get close to her at all. She will turn and give you both eyes and let you get about 3' from her and then away she goes. I will try tomorrow again. Bob has to work.
Our bedroom floor is about done. Yahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh00000000000000. Now I am emptying out closet. I did not know we had so much stuff. STUFF. Better get back to it.

Wind

My little pump pool. We have not had it up and going very long. We moved it from where we had it last summer.
The wind in the walnut tree. I thought it might blow them apart. These trees were started from starts from my Uncle Georges tree that was started from his grandfathers tree up in Bonney Lake.
Some one asked me what it was called when a spot like Sages white spots
had the shadow edge all around it. I said I didn't know but maybe one of you will.
All of her white spots are surrounded with that edging.

A bad hair day. I didn't do much with her today because of the wind. She ran and bucked and jumped before she let me catch her. She was a little touchy this evening but we have had monstrous wind all day. I am sure that was her problem.

Emma was about to fly away with the wind blowing stuff around.

Another tree that I thought might just blow off some where. There are fires all over the place.
It was just a nasty windy day. Not cold but the wind has been awful. Hate it when the wind blows like this in the summer because it always means lots of fires around.

A non horsey weekend

This is our friends Judy and Merrill. Today they celebrated their 50th anniversary. We went to their party. It was good to see a lot of friends. Congratulations.
Three of our grandchildren. Skylor, Nikki and Jadeyn. We measured Sky and he is 5'11 at 14. They were not happy about Grandma taking their picture. Oh well, Grandma wanted to.

I really did nothing with the horses this weekend except feed and water. It was so hot I just couldn't do it. Like my friend Andrea said in her blog - Mustang Saga - I am going to have to become a morning person if I want to do things with the horses.

Lane is in town with his Uncle Tom and family. Bob will pick him up when he gets off work tomorrow. And, tomorrow the bedroom floor gets started. I hope he can do it in one day. Also the garage is ready for the new door. We are getting the things done we wanted to accomplish.

I hope your weekend was blessed.

Summer

It took some talking but I got Lane to pet Peppers nose. Then he picked up his rope and was not so afraid. Lane is a city kid. However, his chore every day when he is here is to get the eggs. He is even a little leery of them coming to close - the hens, not the eggs.

Katie's Abby in time out. She is tearing fences up right and left. I don't know what has gotten into her. Then, I tried to catch her to put her in with Amelia and no way no how was she going to let me. I text Katie and asked her to come when she got off work and catch her. She did. Abby is not happy but she won't break down that fence. She just walks through the hot wire. The others won't go near it but she just bully's right through. Bob is plumb upset with her. He does not like fixing fence every day with her out happily eating.

It was so hot today Sage and I did not do anything new. Just went over what we had covered. She let me walk right up to her and attach the rope but was just a little cranky about doing stuff so we didn't. I didn't blame her.

Bob is teaching a packing clinic tonight and tomorrow. Not too far from home so he will be home tonight. I hope we get to do some of it this summer but its not looking like it.

Blessings.

Hot and Tired

It was still 94 at 6:30 and that is the last time I checked. I am not complaining, it is just plain old hot.

This morning Lane and I started unloading 2 tons of hay but Bob and our oldest son Steve soon showed up. Lane was in the way a lot but he was trying to help. Steve put them on the elevator off the trailer, I drug them off and to Bob and he stacked. Our loft is almost full. We have several more tons coming though.

The, we gathered up the cow calf pairs and loaded them in the big trailer and took them up to Newport where they will spend the rest of the summer and fall as long as the grass holds. Not a hard job but its a drive up there with no AC. My face looks like a lobster. My nose will peel but the rest will turn brown.

I worked with Sage first thing this AM = probably about 7:30. She did fine. I did get one foot picked up. Nothing too new. It was too early for both of us. She was in a good frame of mind though. I could have led her about anywhere I think.

Bed is calling loudly and my knees are telling me its time = Blessings

A Great Day

Sage playing peek a boo with me on the outside of the round pen. Loved that look. I was putting some of the horses in for the night.
Her color and the sun did not show exactly what I wanted. She had an expression on her face that was priceless. I was waving the lash of the carrot stick all over. She just stood there and did not freak out like yesterday. I was able to wave it beside her and over her and lay the stick on her with the lash flopping. Much progress.

I used a brush on her the first time today. Had used a rubber curry but not a brush. She did not mind at all. I was so proud of her. I even brushed her face with it.

Our grandson Lane that is visiting for a couple of weeks. He is almost 12. He loves our little pool. Actually it is a large stock tank that we got for the purpose of a pool for our grandkids. I got tired of replacing plastic ones a couple of times every summer. I believe this is season five with it. Bob put a pump on it and they kids love it.

I don't know what he thinks he is going to see at the bottom but he snorkeled all afternoon. In the winter we stash the pump in the garage and and just turn the tank upside down.

Bob and our oldest son Steve pouring cement for a footing for the new garage door. Steve just finished siding it. He did it mostly with leftover from the house. Bob traded some meat to a guy to install the new door. We just had to buy the door. Its waiting. It will be so nice. Then to get the inside cleaned out so we can use it for the reason it was intended for.
A good day. Bob worked, Lane played in the pool and got the eggs for me, went into Airway Heights and got my prescriptions filled and took Lane to Micky Dee's for supper. Bob is at a Back Country Horse board meeting. Our day is winding down restfully.
Blessings

Sorry no pictures

When I had some awesome picture possibilities, I did not have my camera. The first photo opportunity was Lane feeding Sage hay and her letting him pet her forehead. He has been so timid about the horses that I was surprised. She was so gentle with him. I just grown to love her more every day.

The second was - Bob was unloading 100 100@ bales of hay and 11 year old Lane was going to help. No one asked him to, he wanted to. But he could not budge them even with a hay hook. So he went to the end of the elevator and could push them aside until there were too many and then Grandpa would come and stack them. I sure wish there was someone to help Bob. This is the hardest thing on the farm for him to do.

Sage was good in the round pen today for the most part. She had a little conniption when I started waving the lash of the carrot stick around. She jumped and tried to run but did stop when I got a handle on her head. I am glad I had the 20' rope on her. I finally got her to stand and just look at it. That was progress. AND I did rub her front legs clear to her feet. I did not try to lift it but rubbed it and rubbed it. Every day there is some progress. I can not ask for any more than that.

It was 81 today, 58 yesterday. Does that make sense. Of course not. It is supposed to be almost 100 by the weekend. I am not complaining - I am not. We have a cool house and I can go out and work in the yard, come in and cool down and go back out. Lane is living in the pool.

Blessings
