Wenatchee Again

Three of our six great grandchildren.
Lilianna, Nathaniel and Arawyn.
These are Nikki's grandchildren. They were all three there at the same time for the first time. She took the picture. She bought the little girls tutu's and Nathaniel is wearing the outfit that his daddy wore when he was dedicated. Nathaniel and Lilianna are brother and sister. I love this picture.
I had a successful workout with Sage this morning. She had a minor snit a couple of times but ultimately she did what I asked. I was working with my carrot stick and flipping the lash around. She tolerated it on one side but the other, well not so much but she got over it. That is what we will work on tomorrow. I am trying also to teach her to stand in one place when I tell her to stand. I want her to do that. She got a little irritated with me putting her back and putting her back so we moved on to other things. For the first time when we were done and I took the rope off her and then I held out my hand and she took a step toward me and when I walked away she turned as if to follow but then she thought better of it and she walked away. Progress though.
I drove to Wenatchee and back to go get Arawyn and deliver her to her mother. That is about 350 miles. I am weary. I brought our grandson Lane home with me for a couple of weeks. He entertains himself quite well. He is almost 12.
Blessings.

Happy Birthday America

My sweet friend Kim surprised me today right after we got home from church. She had her grand kids with her. She was taking them home to Everett. They are sweet, beautiful children and I was thrilled to see them again. They had a good time with Skeeter and he with them. Please pray for that family. Her mother is ill with a recurrence of cancer. s
I hope you have all thought about why we celebrate today. What we really celebrate. Our freedoms. Stop to think about how many we have. If you think about another country - Sudan, China, Iraq and think of what we have. Freedom to move about, freedom to worship how we choose, freedom to wear what we want, freedom to say what we want even if it does not sound nice. That is just a drop of the bucket. All because we live in this country. Happy Birthday America. Fireworks are illegal here but if you live where they are, be safe.
Blessings.

A good day

I did work with Sage today and we did great. I consistently can run my hand down her leg and I rubbed down her back to her tail and she just stood there. I only worked once, it was a busy day and kind of gave her a break. I tried to get her to eat some grain but so far its still in its dish in her feeder. I put her hay in over it and she tossed the hay out onto the ground. Oh well. She will get it one of these days.
Ditto got her feet trimmed today. She just stood there like always. She is my first horse love. I have had her since she was 2 and she is now 28.
Our 18 year old granddaughter Coreen. I am so worried about her weight. She is the daughter of our son Scott that died 6 years ago.

This and the next picture are of what broke off of the dun mares hind foot when Bob was working with her. He has not got his hands on her yet but she is giving to the rope OK. Time I guess. I was horrified how the foot had turned so far under. Look at that fold. I am horrified.

I If we could get close enough we would sedate her and trim them but that is not practical at this point. I don't want to rope her and choke her down. Just keep working I guess. A friends niece named her Emma. So that is what I am calling her.
We put Jack the calf out in a small pasture by himself. I hope he does ok over night out there. He comes when you rattle his bucket.
Coreen came for the day. It was so good to see her. Her move to Auburn did not last long. I have several reasons to be very worried about her.
Have a happy Fourth of July
Blessings

Good Progress

I had a great day with Sage today. I put my brush in my pocket before I went out into the round pen. I caught Sage in her little pen. She just lets me walk up to her without a flinch. I led her out to the round pen and did a couple of things with her. Like leading her. Then I rubbed her neck and took out the brush. Isn't her mane beautiful. I was so proud of her to just stand there and let me without jumping or moving off.
Notice anything different? Her halter? I changed halters on her today without so much as a twitch. I was so proud of her. She just stood there and let me like we had done it every day. I took the drag rope off. I could have several days ago but did it today. I was so proud of her.

She has such a pretty face. I also rubbed down her front legs clear to her hoof on this side and to her knee on the other side. I could do it on all four feet with the stick. I was jumping up and down and shouting hurrah inside. This was the best day ever. She acts like she really likes me. I love her.
Today was the Census Bureau picnic. I don't know if it was the Fourth of July picnic or just about over picnic. I know I ate a lot. It was fun. By the end of July it will be all done with I believe.
Blessings

A Long Day

This is Isaac and today he is 6. I saw him yesterday and I asked him what tomorrow was (yesterday so I was talking about today). He told me very seriously that today was Thursday and it was his birthday and I am serious Grandma. So happy birthday Monkey. We love you A LOT.
Our Great Granddaughter Arawyn. She is a pistol. But a Sweetheart too. We took her to meet her Nana and Papa in Wenatchee. That is half way. I will go and get her on Monday. We don't get to see her as often as we would like but love it when we can.

We went to get some hay tonight and while they were loading it I looked up and this girl was standing there and watching. She had a baby with her but kept it out of sight.

I was standing at Sages shoulder and took this picture and the next one too from the other side. She didn't seem to mind too much.

This is the side that was untouchable for a long time. I want to try to change halters tomorrow. We'll see if that works or not.

Sage peeking under the fence to see who was on the other side. She is becoming much more gentle and sweet.
I worked with her today for a little while but not as long as I had hoped. I was so sleepy today I couldn't seem to accomplish a whole lot. We got home at midnight last night and I could not go to sleep. That always bugs me.
There are 5 kittens left and they go to the pound on Monday if they don't have homes. I want to reclaim my extra bathroom. We are going to be having company off and on for the rest of the summer and I need to get it cleaned and aired out. I would like to keep the blue grey male with long hair if I was going to keep any. But I am not. Not with another litter in the barn.
Blessings

Wunerful wunerful

I had been leading her around when Bob finally got there to take some pictures. She was a little nervous with him standing there so was pulling back just a little.

I don't think she would do this outside the round pen yet but it is good to have her. I was asking her to walk faster of the rope would have been slack.
Now this is progress. This is her bad side and I can walk up to it now without her doing anything. I can rub back to her hip on both sides.

I was trying to fix her mane all on one side. She didn't seem to mind. I will start brushing her mane in the next day or so. She is so beautiful.

Rubbing her neck and messing with the halter. I want to be able to take it off soon. Or at the very least to change halters and put a rope one on her.

She was smelling my hand again. I have to watch her though. She tastes. Earlier I had an orange tee shirt on and she took a hold of it twice. Not in a biting manner, just tasting. No teeth on me but I can't have her doing that. It was pretty funny but would not have been if she had gotten a hold of me.
Bob even went in and led her a bit. I am so proud of her progress. So it was a good day. Went and got my hair trimmed and she didn't do it like I asked. I guess if I want a good haircut I need to go to a better salon. Ya think.
Blessings.

Whew

These are all pictures from the Mustang Days weekend just past. This picture is the infamous Pat McGowan on his horse that had about 20 rides on him - Billy. He was such a big help this challenge (Pat not Billy). He liked us and we liked him.

George and Blade. I love this horse. I would like to see him start a really green horse from nothing. He was interesting though and he is a really nice guy.

Mary's horse Black. She truly is black. She took second place in the Mustang division.

Our horse Raven and our kind of granddaughter Katie's fiance Cameron. The barefoot trimmer Mike Cameron was working on our horse Wrangler and he was having a hissy by himself so Cameron brought Raven in and then he stood still.

Tonka, Andrea's mustang. He is a good sized boy. I was at the adoption when she got him. Never would have guessed he would grow into this beautiful horse.

Andrea and Tonka waiting in the arena. Mickey was talking about acupressure and was looking at different horses.

Bea and Cody. He is a good boy. They competed in the trail challenge and did great too. He is from Owyhee, Idaho herd management area.
So that is our Mustang Challenge for this year. I was very happy with all of it.
Linda's daughter Shiloh came over and took four of our kittens home today. Only four to go. Thank you Linda and hopefully the others will find homes so we don't have to take them to the pound.
Today Mike Cameron came and trimmed two or three of our horses. Then he helped me get going a little better with Sage. I was able to pet her on both sides and for the first time she came up to me and smelled me all over my back. I just stood there and let her then she let me pet her all over her face. I was in awe. No pictures either. Somebody better come and take some. I am sooooo proud of her. Mike gave me some really good hints and told me what he saw me doing wrong. I really appreciate it. I can't wait until tomorrow to practice some more and really get her to trust me.
Bob got our cooler going good this evening. The house is a gazillion times more comfortable.
Blessings
